Fish Recap MIA v NYM Game 1: Umpire's Call Help Derail Marlins Momentum

After the Marlins finished their first Home-Series 2-2 against the Colorado Rockies, The Fish drop game one versus the New York Mets.

Caleb Smith had a solid outing pitching 5 innings with 8 strike outs. He got into trouble once the Mets put the bat on the ball, but Caleb kept his poise and getting out of the jams with minimal damage. He was pulled with the game tired at 2. Stalin Castro had all 3 RBI with his Home Run in the 1st and the go-ahead RBI single in the 6th.

The bullpen pulled together giving up just one run until the debacle in the 9th, but we'll get to that. Kinley gave up the 1st career home run for Alonso, pulled it together to finish the inning with just one run.

So now the 9th inning. The umpires missed a huge call changing the tide of the game and putting a runner in scoring position with no outs for the Mets. The Umpires called a HBP when a bunt foul strikeout was the correct call. To the Umpires credit they took their time and even let New York Offices weigh in but alas Replay Challenges cant change Balls and Strikes.

Steckenrider fell apart from there giving up a RBI single then a 3 run Home Run leaving the Fish down 4.In nthe Bottom of the 9th, the Marlins Started with 3 straight singles and the bases loaded. Subsequently the next 3 batters were all struck out.

Hopefully the Fish can bounce back tonight in Game 2 when Jose Urena takes on Jason Vargas in Marlins Park. First Pitch 7:10.
