One South Florida top cop is reassuring his community that his agency won't be actively looking for illegal immigrants.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw held a meeting yesterday at a Latin restaurant in Greenacres.

"If you hear people saying 'Oh they're going to do immigration sweeps...they're coming to your house, knocking on your door. They're coming to your business.' No folks. No, no no!"

Governor DeSantis is allowing state and local law enforcement to work with ICE, but Bradshaw says his deputies will only do that if ICE agents present a federal warrant.

"There's nothing to be afraid of. Send your kids to school. Go to the hospital if you need to go there. Go wherever you want to."

He says the focus is on catching illegal immigrants who have committed violent crimes.

We asked Sheriff Bradshaw what he would say to someone who would tell him that people in the country illegally should not rest easy because they should also be deported. He says the focus right now is on illegal immigrants who have committed violent acts.

He calls it a "common sense approach."

"There's almost 2 million people we're going to have to go after and find. So, if we're looking to spend more time going after somebody that just might be illegal and is not causing any problems, when we got plenty of people to go after that are the bad guys that are causing the problems."

He adds that if he sent deputies to every business in search of people in this country illegally, it could be a devastating blow to the business and doesn't make any sense.
