A majority of Americans reportedly approve of President Donald Trump's opening weeks, according to a CBS News poll published on Sunday (February 9).

Trump is reported to have a 53% approval rating, which is the highest percentage recorded at any point of either of his two terms. The poll, which has a plus or minus 2.5% error margin, is higher than the 49.81% of the 2024 popular vote, as well as a 19% increase from his 34% approval rating when he left office in January 2021, according to Gallup.

The CBS Poll also showed that 69% of respondents described Trump as "tough," 63% said "energetic," 60% responded "focused" and 58% said "effective" when asked to "describe Donald Trump as..." regardless of whether they approved of his first few weeks in office. Additionally, 70% of respondents said Trump was doing "what he promised" during his campaign while 30% said he was doing something "different from promised."

A majority of respondents also approved the Trump administration's program to deport illegal immigrants by a 59% to 41% margin and 64% were in favor of sending U.S. troops to the southern border. A majority 53% of respondents were, however, opposed to large detention centers being used while determining which migrants should be deported.
