At least two dozen illegal immigrants have been taken into custody by ICE in Indian River County.

The Sheriff's Office says it's been working in collaboration with the feds since 2016 in 'Operation Stonegarden,' which focuses on identifying criminal illegal aliens.

That operation led to the detention Thursday of those two dozen individuals and the arrests of eight people on state charges.

One of the illegal immigrants detained has been deported four times and another faced previous charges for sex offenses.

Sheriff Eric Flowers says his agency remains committed to safeguarding the community and talks up its partnership with the feds with a goal of keeping Indian River County safe.
