Two deputies with the Martin County Sheriff's Office escaped major injuries when a suspected distracted driver slammed into their patrol cars on the Turnpike Thursday night.
Both deputies were parked off to the side of the Turnpike near the Stuart exit, investigating a previous crash, when an SUV crashed into one cruiser and that caused the vehicle to hit the second deputy's cruiser.
One was outside their vehicle and was not injured at all. The other deputy was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The driver's SUV burst into flames, but they only suffered minor injuries as did the driver involved in the initial crash that was being investigated.
No word on possible charges against the alleged distracted driver.
