TALLAHASSEE - Florida House Speaker Paul Renner is announcing proposed legislation which would allow so-called constitutional carry, or the ability to carry a concealed weapon in Florida without a permit. The legislation removes the requirement for a concealed weapon permit in order to carry a firearm. It also removes the requirement for the weapons training associated with the permit.

Twenty-five states already allow permitless carry.

The proposal does not address open-carry.

Current law requires a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Obtaining the permit costs around $100 in fees and requires training which costs between $30 and $100. The entire application takes about two months to complete.
