Tampa, FL - The Florida Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division announced it's investigating more than 500 claims of potential price gouging as the state prepares for Hurricane Ian to make landfall.

A spokesperson for the office said Tuesday "our consumer protection investigators are reviewing all contacts on an individual basis, and credible allegations are being handled immediately by our Rapid Response Team by contacting businesses.”

The Consumer Protection Division says there’s no set dollar amount that constitutes price gouging; rather it's calculated based on the average price of the product, good, or service over the last 30 days before a state of emergency was issued.

Officials are encouraging anyone who sees a product double or triple in price to report it by called 1-866-9-NO-SCAM or by going to MyFloridaLegal.com.
