(Miami, FL) -- Florida is the on edge tonight as Hurricane Ian intensifies and inches closer to the Sunshine State.

Tampa could get a direct hit from Hurricane Ian -- something the area hasn't seen for 100 years. Mandatory evacuations in the area are underway and Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a "state of emergency" for the entire state.

The National Hurricane Center says Ian is now a Category Two hurricane and is currently predicted to strike the west coast of Florida or the Florida Panhandle by Thursday.

It already has reached winds of up to 100 miles per hour. Florida could start to feel the effects of Ian late Tuesday into Wednesday.
