Blue Jays Even Series With Rays

The Toronto Blue Jays (18-16) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (20-14) 5-1 on Saturday evening at Tropicana FIeld.

After the Blue Jays got a run in the top of the first, Yandy Diaz homered in the bottom of the frame to tie the game 1-1. It would be a pitching duel from there as both teams put up zeros until the eighth inning, when Toronto broke through. The Blue Jays got four runs, including homers from Teoscar Hernandez and Danny Jansen, to take a 5-1 lead.

Ryan Yarbrough got the start and pitched three and two-third innings, allowing just one earned run. Ryan Thompson (1-2, 5.11) took the loss after allowing the four Toronto runs in the eighth inning.

The Rays and Blue Jays meet in the rubber game at the Trop on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Neil Solondz hosting the Inside Pitch at high noon on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
